TVR-1 held the
final on February 27th.
Here is a list of
the 15 songs in the Romanian National Final on 27th February
20.30-22.30 local
The result was
decided by televoting; the entries were previewed by video clip on
TVR-1 from 9th-18th February 20.50-21.00 local.
The final was shown on TVR International, Romania's satellite channel the next day in edited form.
A pretty good show, with some very creditable songs. I was impressed by 4th placed "I can touch the stars" by Daniel Robu. There was also the panpipes of Gheorghe Zamfir singing a rather corny Eurovision-y song with Monica Anghel, who was the would-be Romanian entry in the 1996 season, but she was knocked out in that year's preselection. Her song came third, but first place is another panpipes-influenced song by Taxi.
Taxi was formed in 1999. They are: Lucian Cioaga (drums), Adrian Bortun (bass), George Patranoiu (guitar), Georgiana Pana (panpipes), and Dan Teodorescu (vocals).
The telephone
voting was free of charge (unusually) and the interval act was a
collection of (presumably) popular Romanian artists performing one or
two songs. Some of these were very good, but I couldn't catch the
names, unfortunately.
