29th January saw the fourth of four preselections for the Belgian
song for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. The fourth
show was won by Belle Perez (pictured right).
Flanders has the honour this year, and last week's third show
included singer Kate Ryan, very successful in Europe,
especially in Germany. Her song 'Je t’adore' was a upbeat number
and did well. In the previous two shows we've seen Barbara Dex,
who represented Belgium in 1993 with "Iemand als jij" and Vanessa
Chinitor, who represented Belgium in 1999
in Jerusalem with "Like the Wind". Her song, "Beyond
You", was written by Gerard James Borg & Philip Vella,
Maltese veterans of the Eurovision themselves, their most recent
entry being Malta's 2004 song "On Again, Off Again" sung
by Julie & Ludwig.
There's one more preselection on January 29th, then two semis to
come, with a final on February 19th. Those of you outside Belgium
with satellite dishes that can point at Hotbird (13 deg E) or Astra 1
(19 deg E) can catch the show on BVN, which has never shown any part
of the Belgian contest before. In Belgium the show starts at 1920
GMT, but its at 1955 on BVN. After a break the results show goes out
at 2210 GMT, also delayed. BVN is also available outside Europe.

DVDs
I am now able to offer a 2-DVD set of the first two Belgian
preselections, as ever digitally recorded in top quality from
Satellite TV. The shows are complete - about 105 minutes each with 7
songs in each and all the scoring. There's chapters for each song so
you don't have to listen to the Flemish chatter if you don't want to.
Of course you may want to hear Johnny Logan's view on each
song/ singer (he's one of the expert jury, and the only one speaking
in English). The DVDs will be in a double library case.
NB: Only one note of caution, there was a brief glitch on
transmission during song 1 on show 1 (Brahim - P.O.W.E.R) so the
picture freezes for a few seconds.
